The Rock Hill Police Department would like for everyone to have the safest Holiday Shopping Season possible and toward that goal, we ask that you adhere to the tips being offered. The Rock Hill Police Department has prepared a list of suggestions for shoppers to consider while visiting our shopping areas this Holiday season. Be aware of your surroundings. Look for suspicious persons, etc. when you are in any area. Remember where you parked your car. Many shopping areas are spread out over large areas. Being unable to locate your car can cause you undue confusion and stress that may present you as a better target to a criminal. If shopping late in the day or after dark, park in an area that is well lighted. Shop in pairs at the very least. Take a friend or family member shopping with you. There is something to be said for safety in numbers. As you return to your car, make sure to keep your car key in your hand. Avoid carrying large amounts of cash. Pay for purchases with checks, credit, charge or debit cards. Carry only what is needed, leave extra credit cards and cash at home. Don't leave cell phones, purses, laptops, GPS units or any other item of value out in plain view where criminals can see them. Leave these items at home if they are not needed or lock them in your trunk. Remember, if an item of value can be seen from outside of your vehicle, then you asking to be a victim. The ordinance requires that all Alarm Systems located within the boundaries of the city limits of Rock Hill to be registered with the Rock Hill Police Department Alarm Coordinator. Currently, the ordinance requires all registrations to be renewed annually.
