Try the Track

Are you interested in riding at the Velodrome? If you would like to try riding the track before committing to a certification course, this free program is perfect for you! We provide the bike and instructor, and you bring:

  • a bike helmet
  • a water bottle
  • clipless pedals and shoes or athletic shoes

To request a Try the Track session, please contact velodrome staff via email.

Certification Course

Date: Second Saturday April – October
Time: 9 AM – Noon
Cost: $65 One-Time Fee

We require all riders to pass a certification course prior to riding the velodrome. This is important for the safety of all.

To attend, you should have solid bike handling skills, proficiency riding with clipless pedals and be in good physical condition. Please bring a properly fitted bike helmet, clipless pedals and shoes, a full cycling kit, and a water bottle. When you register, let us know if you need a rental bike (included with the course fee).

To learn more about the certification course, please see the registration link here.

Experienced Track Riders

If you’re certified on another track, you may not need to take our certification clinic. Notify us at least one week in advance and provide the following information:

  • Dates you want to ride.
  • Track(s) you have ridden.
  • Your home track and its size (i.e., 200m, 250m, 333m, 400m).
  • Proof of membership or your certification credentials.
  • Year(s) of riding experience and your USAC category level.

Upon arrival, we will familiarize you with our track, ask you to ride a few laps and remind you of the minimum speed for this track (15 MPH).

Track Bikes

A track bike, also known as a fixed gear, is a specialized bicycle for Velodrome use, featuring no brakes and a single gear. We have track bikes available for rent on a first-come, first-served basis for $5. Riders should bring their own pedals and cycling shoes.

To use your own track bike, our staff must approve it prior to first use on the track. The bottom brackets must be at least 11.25 inches from the ground to the center of the bracket with no longer than 170mm crank arms.

For safety reasons, we only allow track bikes on the Velodrome due to the steep track embankment.
