Time out of the office is essential to maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Accrual rates are based on years of service, and can be carried over up to a maximum of 90 days or 720 hours. 

• Days are earned in hourly amounts on a bi-weekly basis.
  • 1-3 years of service
    • Full-time: 120 hours per year
    • Part-time: 90 hours per year
  • 4-8 years of service
    • Full-time: 136 hours per year
    • Part-time: 102 hours per year
  • 9-13 years of service
    • Full-time: 152 hours per year
    • Part-time: 114 hours per year
  • 14-18 years of service
    • Full-time: 168 hours per year
    • Part-time: 126 hours per year
  • 19-23 years of service
    • Full-time: 184 hours per year
    • Part-time: 138 hours per year
  • 24 or more years of service
    • Full-time: 208 hours per year
    • Part-time: 156 hours per year
• 40 hours of leave will be available to employees immediately upon hire.
• Vacation time can be carried over up to a maximum of 720 hours.

It's more important now, more than ever, for employees to stay home when they're sick. We offer accrual of sick leave with no limit, and a sick leave bank with optional enrollment can help provide additional leave if an extended absence is needed. 

Sick Leave

• Regular, full-time employees earn 80 hours for each year of service starting with the first calendar month from start date.
• Regular, part-time employees (30 hours/week year-round) earn 60 hours each year.
• Up to 80 hours per year can be used for illness, injury or medical appointments for these family members:
  • spouse
  • children and stepchildren
  • grandchildren
  • employee's parents
  • people employee is the legal guardian of
• Sick leave can be carried over with no limit.
• Sick to Vacation Conversion 
  • Annually, employees may choose to convert 10 days of unused sick leave into 5 days of vacation/annual leave.
  • A minimum balance of 10 days is required to choose this option.

Sick Bank

• Participation is optional. 
• Available for employees who experience a catastrophic personal illness or accident.
• If needed and approved, up to 90 days can be used.
• Join by contributing 2 sick days to the bank after successfully completing your introductory period.
• Depending on the balance of the sick bank, members may periodically be asked to contribute an additional day.

When you lose a loved one, the City will support you in your time of need. We understand that time is needed to make arrangements, pay your respects, attend to affairs and grieve. 

Full-time, active employees receive:

• Up to 5 consecutive days off for immediate family:

• Up to 3 consecutive days off for extended family:

Year-round, part-time employees may receive this benefit at a prorated amount.

We love when our City family grows, and offer leave options for both birth mothers, fathers and adoptive parents. Employees are eligible from the first date of employment  

Parental Leave

• 2 weeks paid leave immediately following the birth or adoption of a child for the child's mother and father.
• Must be taken in one continuous period.

Maternity Leave

• 4 weeks paid leave immediately following giving birth.
• Combined with parental leave, 6 weeks total paid leave available for new mothers.
• Can be taken prior to birth if there's a medical condition necessitating earlier use.
• Must be taken in one continuous period. 

We understand the need to care for parents as they age. The City offers paid elder care leave to care for the employee's parents if you're the primary caretaker. 

• Up to 80 hours paid time off per 12 months.
• Time can be taken intermittently.
