Authority:

The Construction & Fire Prevention Code Board of Appeals was created by City Council on April 8, 2019, consolidating the Construction Board of Appeals and the Fire Prevention Code Board of Adjustments and Appeals. The Construction & Fire Prevention Code Board of Appeals hears appeals for the fire prevention code and electrical, gas, plumbing, building and mechanical codes.

Membership:

Five members appointed by City Council. The membership shall be comprised of the following individuals: one building contractor, one fire safety professional, one design professional and two at-large representatives with expertise as an electrical contractor or engineer, mechanical contractor or engineer, gas contractor, plumbing contractor, or structural engineer or architect. Members shall have a minimum of five years of experience in their given field of expertise. The Board shall consist of volunteer members who reside within the City of Rock Hill city limits or whose business is within the City of Rock Hill city limits.

Responsibilities:

Hears grievances and appeals regarding the application of the International Building code, International Residential Code, International Mechanical Code, International Plumbing Code, International Fuel and Gas Code, International Fire Code and National Electrical Code.

Provides educational opportunities for contractors.

Meeting Schedule:

The Board meets annually in February and as called at other times during the year. Meetings usually last approximately one hour and are held at a time and place determined by the Chairperson. See the calendar for the current listing of specific meeting dates.
